April 10, 2024 – Prof. Trey Adcock, founding director of the UNC Asheville Sloan Scholar Program, was awarded the 2024 UNC System Board Of Governors Excellence In Teaching Award. Congratulations, Trey!
February 6, 2024 – UNC Asheville and Western Carolina University have received a $220,000 four-year grant through the Sloan Indigenous Graduate Partnership (SIGP), funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and part of a joint award with Purdue University and the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME). The grant will enable the two universities to combine efforts in supporting students and expanding pathways to graduate degrees for Indigenous students in the southeastern region.

October 8, 2021 – Congratulations to UNCA Sloan Scholar Gabbie Moneymaker, who was awarded the NC Research Award at the 2021 AISES National Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona! Gabbie’s research project, “The Perceived Effects of a Sensory Garden on Individuals on the Autism Spectrum,” was undertaken this past summer with the guidance of Dr. Darren Bernal. Congratulations Gabbie!
Ongoing events – The Sloan Inclusive Leadership Workshop Series is focused on providing Sloan Scholars from the Sloan Indigenous Graduate Partnership and University Centers for Exemplary Mentoring communities with skills and knowledge that will support their development as leaders in graduate school and beyond. Sloan Scholars may register for any workshop of interest to them, as participation in one workshop is not contingent on participation in any of the other workshops. Registrants will be notified of their selection status and the Zoom meeting link for a workshop will be shared only with those scholars selected to participate.
